Chairman's Report

I would like to thank Aimi for providing such a splendid Seder table for Tu B'Shevat on Sunday evening 20January. Ian led a remarkable service which all 7 of us enjoyed! I must admit I was truly disappointed with the lack of members attending such a lovely evening, when so much effort had gone in to preparing the celebrations.

The Cardiology Ward at Castle Hill Hospital had the great pleasure of Henry Goldstone visiting them for a few days last month. Henry had a few new parts fitted and he is now back on top form and guarding the memorial boards again.

We held our annual famous Open Service on Friday 22 February. We had in excess of 80 people attending and I have received remarkable feedback from all who attended the evening. A big thank you goes to Ian for taking the splendid service and the running commentary. Also thanks go to Audrey and her helpers, Lesley, Joanne, Elaine, Shirley and Deborah, for providing the splendid Jewish-style foods afterwards. Members of Ne've Shalom have been invited to All Saints Church in Preston on Sunday evening 5th May at 6.00pm for their Service. I feel that it would be nice if we could go along and support them, as they supported us.

Sadly, it's with great sadness that I have to report that our Vice Chairman, Phil, is standing down from his role. Phil has been a truly remarkable person to work with. He has done so much for the Shul over the last few years and he has been the back bone for many things in keeping the place ticking over. On behalf of all members, Phil, thank you so much for all you have done for Ne've Shalom. We will be seeking a replacement at the AGM in June.

This year's Purim celebrations will be taking place on Wednesday 20th March at 7.00pm. Although fancy dress is optional, prizes will be awarded for best dressed, as judged by our team of experts.

I'm pleased to report that we have managed to draw down some funding to provide security cover for the Shul, and hopefully, this will be on-going.

We will be dimming the lights on Sunday 24 March at 2.00pm for another one of our successful film showings. This time we are showing the Film Yentl. Further details can be found on page 3 of our latest newsletter.

Our Senior Warden, Malcolm Rosenberg, has volunteered to lead this year's Communal Seder on Friday evening 19 April. (He actually came forward and volunteered... really). Further details can be found on page 4 of our latest newsletter on how to obtain tickets.

Finally, don't forget that we continue to hold our Friday Night Services every week at 7.00pm and our Shabbat Morning Services at 10.30am on the first Saturday of the month.
Forthcoming Events

This year's Communal Seder will be taking place on the first night of Pesach, Friday 19 April 2019.

The Seder Service will commence at 6.30pm and, as in previous years, the Seder is for members and their friends and there are limited places available. As always, we are very pleased that our Communal Seder is such a well attended event.

To ensure there is sufficient catering for everyone we need you to book your place in advance. Tickets will again cost 13.00 per person for members and 18.00 per person for non-members (7.00 for children under 13 years).

Tickets are available from Helen Jackman, who can be contacted on 07884 432 329, or at helen@hsts.co.uk or see Andy in Shul.

Please note, that although bookings should be made in advance, should you choose to pay on the night, the prices will rise to 15.00 per person for members and 20.00 per person for non-members. Don't wait, book now and save!

To help us with catering, Deborah, Shirley and Joanne would be grateful for an expression of interest in attending. They may ask you for help in making a salad etc., to make the event a really communal affair and you can reclaim the cost of the ingredients.

If you have helped regularly in previous years and are not intending to join us this year - it would be helpful if you could let Deborah know. Deborah can be contacted on 01482 848247, at deb.wrap@gmail.com or see her in Shul.

You can also use joannekearsley@yahoo.co.uk and Joanne will forward any messages to Deborah.
School & Educational Visits
Ne've Shalom Synagogue is committed to educating the wider community about Judaism.

Each year over hundreds of pupils, students and adults come to learn some basic knowledge about Judaism. As part of the visit, they are shown Jewish artifacts and are taught about the traditions and rituals concerning our faith. We receive many compliments regarding the service that we offer and the schools and other institutions appear to enjoy the time spent this way.

Many groups return every year, so it is proving to be a popular event in the curriculum. We cater for all age groups from Primary to Secondary to Higher Education, adapting the programme to suit.

Although there is no charge, as all the guides are willing volunteers, we are always grateful for a discretionary donation to cover the costs of running the Synagogue.
